We just love Mary and Hashem’s back story.  Here is what they sent to us when we asked how they met and how the proposal went down:  Mary and Hashem met in October of 2010 at the Intrepid Museum in New York. The Intrepid is a giant aircraft carrier anchored along Manhattan’s west side that showcases a range of sea, air and  space history. The two met through a website called “How About We…” where people are matched up based on their date ideas. Mary’s date idea was to go to a nautical knot tying workshop in Red Hook and Hashem’s was to go to a museum and have cocktails. The Intrepid was the perfect combination.

Their first date turned into a 12-hour adventure involving: touring the Intrepid, to running through the Concorde Jet, to sipping wine at a nearby bar, to attempting to break into a VIP New Yorker party as part of Paul Reuben’s entourage, to dinner at the Russian-themed restaurant involving Fig infused vodka, to a nightcap at Tom & Jerry’s, to finally attempting to trade contact information by using the “Bump” app.

They were engaged on a small sailboat on the Hudson River on a summer day. Hashem proposed to Mary just as the sailboat passed in front of the Intrepid.

This wedding definitely fit with the couples’ adventurous theme.  The two decided on the Massachussettes Museum of Modern Art (more commonly known as MASS MoCA).  This is such a cool museum with some outstanding modern art.  Guest enjoyed an array of activities in the area since most came from various parts of the country.  There was even a Henna tattoo party the night before the wedding.  Both Mary and Hashem got ready at the Porches Inn and had a processional of about 30 people join them for the short walk over to the museum.  It was great utilizing all the modern art as our backdrop throughout the day.  The ceremony was conducted under artist Teresita Fernandez’s sculpture, “As Above So Below.”  Guests arranged themselves after the ceremony for a “high-five corridor” which was such a different take on a receiving line.  Guests enjoyed a fabulous cocktail hour and then headed to the reception in the museum’s lobby area.  Cuisine was Indian Fare and guests took part in a group Bollywood number with the Bride and Groom.  It was an interesting day and a lot of detail went into everything.

Mary and Hashem, we hope the two of you continue to make many more adventures in your married life together!  Cheers!

Prep. for the day

OK, so with Henna Tattoos for the wedding day, the Groom’s name is hidden in the design.  Tradition goes that the groom has to find his name before they can (cough, cough), well you know ;).

This is so Mary and Hashem.  The inside of the Airstream is as quirky as they are.

Best Father/Daughter dance.  Midway through, Mary danced on her dad’s feet like when she was a little girl.
